The Information Management and Technology (IM&T) team plays a pivotal role in supporting BCFSA as the regulator of B.C.’s financial services sector.

IM&T offers infrastructure, digital security, application development and support, project and portfolio management, data management, records management, and privacy services to support BCFSA’s operations. Information management is the cornerstone of this team’s services, ensuring that data is captured, organized, and stored efficiently.

Each one of our IM&T team members plays a critical role within BCFSA by serving as the backbone of technological infrastructure and innovation. There are several teams that make up our IM&T department.

  • The Technology and Digital Security team makes sure IT works safely, reliably, and efficiently. They manage cybersecurity, cloud and infrastructure, and IT support services.

    Roles within this team engage in the following:

    Security

    • Enforce security policies, standards, and best practices to protect organizational assets.
    • Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability management to identify and mitigate threats.
    • Monitor and respond to security incidents, implementing proactive threat intelligence and detection.
    • Manage 24/7 threat monitoring and response.

    Infrastructure

    • Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable, and resilient IT infrastructure.
    • Manage on-premises and cloud-based environments.
    • Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.

    Service management

    • Provide frontline IT support and issue resolution.
    • Manage service requests, incidents, and problem resolution.
    • Collaborate with other IT teams to resolve complex technical issues.
  • The Information and Data Management team leads BCFSA in delivering information management services that unlock the strategic value of data and enable innovation and regulatory effectiveness.

    Team members are responsible for:

    • Privacy, information, and records management.
    • Data analytics, data engineering, data architecture, and data science.
    • Data governance.
  • The Solution Design & Delivery team manages business technology solutions to support BCFSA’s regulatory activities.

    This team leads in architecture, design, development, testing, and management of business applications at BCFSA. Team members are highly skilled technical experts in SharePoint, Power Platform, Dynamics 365, Microsoft.NET and other Microsoft technologies. We work closely with the business to create digital solutions that help BCFSA be a modern, efficient, and effective regulator.

    Roles within this team engage in the following:

    • Solution architecture.
    • Application design, development, and maintenance.
    • Technical business analysis.
    • Quality assurance testing.
    • Application training and support.
  • The Project Management Office provides leadership and stewardship over key practices related to business analysis, portfolio and project management. The team’s objective is to make the most of opportunities by helping BCFSA to undertake the right projects, at the right time.

    Roles within this team engage in the following:

    • Provide visibility, maintenance and reporting of the BCFSA project portfolio.
    • Support project intake, approval and prioritization.
    • Advance project and program management practices through the standardization and adoption of formal project management methodologies, frameworks, tools and processes.
    • Provide skills and expertise in the management of projects.
    • Provide business analysis support to projects to identify and support business process optimization.

  • Technical skills:

    • Enterprise architecture & system integration – Designing scalable, secure, and interoperable systems for services.
    • Cloud computing & infrastructure – Managing hybrid cloud environments to support digital transformation.
    • Data management & analytics – Ensuring data governance, privacy, and effective use of AI/ML for insights.
    • IT Service Management (ITSM) – Implementing Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) frameworks for efficient service delivery.
    • Procurement & vendor management – Navigating government procurement processes (RFPs, RFIs, contract negotiations).
    • Innovation & emerging tech – Evaluating and leveraging emerging technologies like AI, blockchain, and automation for use, when needed.
  • Soft skills

    • Change management – Driving digital transformation while balancing risk and adoption challenges.
    • Communication & facilitation – Translating complex IT concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
