Connecting with licensees at real estate board annual general meetings
From February 2026 through May 2026, BCFSA’s leadership team connected with real estate licensees across the province, speaking at seven real estate board annual general meetings (AGMs). Engagement is central to BCFSA’s regulatory approach, and these meetings provide an important opportunity to connect directly with the people and organizations delivering real estate services in British Columbia.
At each AGM, BCFSA highlighted the newly launched 2026–2029 Strategic Plan. BCFSA’s Strategic Plan is anchored in a refreshed vision of a thriving financial services in British Columbia and a strengthened purpose of building and maintaining confidence in B.C.’s financial services sector. Real estate licensees are often the first point of contact for people navigating some of the most important financial decisions they will ever make.
BCFSA also provided important regulatory updates at the AGMs:
- An update on the recent consultation on the Strengthening Confidence in Real Estate Services Discussion Paper which explored ways to strengthen confidence in real estate services by promoting greater transparency, fairness, and professionalism. BCFSA will publish a consultation summary report in early June.
- An overview of the 2026 Brokerage Data Call to collect residential real estate and rescission data from trading services brokerages in February and March. Through an information-sharing agreement with the Greater Vancouver REALTORS®, BCFSA streamlined data collection, reduced reporting burden, and exempted GVR members from submitting certain regional transaction data. Improved access to data and analytics will enable earlier issue detection, more targeted oversight, and fewer interventions.
- Ongoing work exploring how to strengthen brokerage governance while balancing liability, accountability, and regulatory burden. It aims to empower brokerages to manage complaints more proactively and enhance reporting for serious misconduct, with further engagement to come.
BCFSA values ongoing engagement with real estate boards and licensees across the province and appreciates the dialogue that strengthens our regulatory work. We thank the boards for the opportunity to participate in their AGMs.
