Real Estate Council Welcomes Appointment of New Superintendent of Real Estate
September 19, 2016, Vancouver, BC —The Real Estate Council of BC welcomes the recent government announcement regarding the appointment of Micheal Noseworthy as the province’s new Superintendent of Real Estate.
“Having dealt with Mr. Noseworthy in his previous capacity as Superintendent of Real Estate for Yukon, I know he brings a range of skills and abilities that will serve consumers in this province well,” said Council Executive Officer Robert Fawcett. “I know I speak for all the staff of the Real Estate Council when I say that we are looking forward to working with Mr. Noseworthy to implement measures that will increase consumer protection.”
In February, 2016 the Real Estate Council initiated the Independent Advisory Group chaired by former Superintendent of Real Estate Carolyn Rogers to recommend changes to increase public protection in the regulation and practices of licensed real estate professionals in BC. Following delivery of the group’s Final Report, in June 2016, the BC government announced changes to the regulation of real estate, giving the Superintendent of Real Estate increased authority and oversight.
The Real Estate Council, in co-operation with staff from the Office of the Superintendent of Real Estate and the Ministry of Finance, are working towards the timely and efficient implementation of the report’s recommendations.
